Connection Issues with TotalVPN

Experiencing VPN Connection Issues when trying to connect to TotalVPN? See below for guides on troubleshooting solutions to help resolve your issue:

Please know that for Android Devices, the instructions may vary, as each make & model for Android is different.

Restart Your Device:

Power off your Android device and turn it back on.

Check Your Internet Connection:

Disconnect from TotalVPN and try browsing the internet.

If you can't access the web, troubleshoot your Wi-Fi or mobile data first.

Check for Android Updates:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to System.
  • Go to Software Update.
  • Install any Available Updates and Restart your device.
  • Samsung Devices
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap Software Update.
  • Tap Download and Install.
  • Your device will check for updates. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  • Google Pixel Devices
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap System.
  • Tap System Update.
  • Your device will check for updates. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  • Xiaomi Devices (MIUI/HyperOS)
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap About Phone.
  • Tap MIUI Version (or HyperOS Version, depending on your device).
  • Tap Check for Updates.
  • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  • OnePlus Devices
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap About Device.
  • Tap OxygenOS Version (or Software update).
  • Tap Check for Updates.
  • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  • Sony Devices
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap About Phone.
  • Tap Software Update.
  • Tap Check for Updates.
  • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  • Other VPNs Installed:

    Please can you check that you do not have another VPN installed, as this can prevent another VPN Connection from being established.

    ISP Allows VPN Usage:

    Unfortunately, not all ISPs will allow VPN usage in certain countries and we highly suggest you contact your ISP to ask if they do allow VPNs to be used or if they are restricted.

    Uninstall-Reinstall TotalVPN:

  • Locate the TotalVPN application on your device.
  • Press and hold the TotalVPN application.
  • Tap Uninstall
  • Tap OK to confirm
  • To download a new instance of TotalVPN, please head to the Google Play Store to reinstall the application.
  • Change VPN Protocol:

  • Open TotalVPN.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to Protocols.
  • Switch between WireGuard, OpenVPN (TCP/UDP), or Hydra and try reconnecting.

  • Switch between WireGuard, IPSec, or Hydra and try reconnecting.

    Restart your Mac and retry TotalVPN.

    Check Your Internet Connection:

    Disconnect from TotalVPN and try browsing the internet.

    If you can't access the web, troubleshoot your Wi-Fi or Ethernet Connection first.

    Check for macOS Updates:

  • Go to System Settings.
  • Go to General.
  • Go to Software Update.
  • Install any Available Updates and restart your Mac.
  • Other VPNs Installed:

    Please can you check that you do not have another VPN installed, as this can prevent another VPN Connection from being established.

  • Click TotalVPN on the Menubar.
  • Click Uninstall TotalVPN.
  • Enter your Mac's Username & Password.
  • Click OK.
  • TotalVPN will now be uninstalled fully from your Mac.
  • To download a new instance of TotalVPN, click here.
  • Install TotalVPN and see if the VPN Connection is resolved/improved.
  • Change VPN Protocol:

  • Open TotalVPN.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to Protocols.
  • Switch between WireGuard, IPSec, or Hydra and try reconnecting.

    Restart your Windows Device and retry TotalVPN.

    Check Your Internet Connection:

    Disconnect from TotalVPN and try browsing the internet.

    Check for Windows Updates:

  • Click on the Windows Start Icon and type in the search bar: Settings.
  • Find and click on Windows Update or Check for Updates.
  • Once in the Windows Update Menu, click on Check for Updates.
  • We highly suggest that you check Optional Updates as well, to install newly released drivers for your computer. To do this check in Advanced Options > Optional Updates > Driver Updates and select all, to Download & Install.
  • Once all updates are completed, please Restart your computer.
  • Retest TotalVPN and see if the VPN Connection now works.
  • Other VPNs Installed:

    Please can you check that you do not have another VPN installed, as this can prevent another VPN Connection from being established.

  • Type TotalVPN into your Windows Search Bar / Start Menu Search Bar and click on Uninstall.
  • The Installed Apps window will open up to show TotalVPN.
  • Should it not, scroll down until you find the application.
  • Click on the Three Horizontal Dots to open a drop-down menu and click Uninstall.
  • Click on Uninstall on the TotalVPN window.
  • To download a new instance of TotalVPN, click here.
  • Reinstall TotalVPN and see if you can successfully connect to the VPN. If you need assistance in reinstalling TotalVPN, click here.
  • Change VPN Protocol:

  • Open TotalVPN.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to Protocols.
  • Switch between WireGuard, IPSec, Hydra, and OpenVPN to see which works the best for you.
